USA: VA Route 5

Route 5 in Virginia is the old wagon road that has connected Richmond to Williamsburg for centuries. I grew up here, and although it is obvious that the road is littered with history, I know very few of the stories. This was the first time I ever actually stopped and read the historic markers that line the road. All markers in this gallery are on the 25 mile stretch between downtown Richmond and the Benjamin Harrison bridge over the James River. The full trip from Richmond to Williamsburg is a little more than  50 miles.
